1 min read

News outlet Algerie Part has reported that a number of meetings have occurred over the past week during which the regime’s different stakeholders agreed that the best option was to re-elect president Bouteflika for a 5th term.

Algerie Part reported in an article published on Thursday: “Several meetings have been held since the beginning of this week at the Presidential Residence of Zéralda and the Palace of El-Mouradia, (…) we have learned from several reliable sources. These meetings brought together influential figures and senior officials of the state, such as Tayeb Belaïz, advisor and chief of staff of the president, the man who is expected to replace the late Mourad Medelci at the head of the constitutional council, Bashir Tartag, the secret services coordinator, Saïd Bouteflika, Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s right hand, and several other leaders including senior military officials and political figures such as Ahmed Ouyahia, the Prime Minister”.

It is unclear whether the president himself took part in these alleged meetings.
